Joint Laboratory “Biological systems adaptation” was founded in April 2006 as a subdivision of Biology Institute at ISU in accordance with a cooperation agreement (December 2005) between the Irkutsk State University and the "Baikal Research Centre”.
The Laboratory is a successful example of public-private partnerships in science and education.
The main aims and objectives of the Laboratory are fundamental studies, theoretical and applied research in different fields of biology and ecology of Lake Baikal and the Baikal region.
Infrastructure:
Office, analytical and experimental facilities of laboratory are located in rooms 120, 120A, 121 in main building of Institute of Biology (Irkutsk, Lenin str., 3). Field laboratory located at Baikal biological station of Institute of Biology in settlement Bolshie Koty (South Baikal).

MA Timofeyev, JM Shatilina, MV Protopopova, VV Pavlichenko, D. Bedulina and E.Sapozhnikova were awarded prizes for publications in peer-reviewed journals in 2008, 2009 and 2010 by Scientific educational centre “Baikal” (ISU).
Head of Laboratory, MA Timofeyev in 2008 was nominated by Elsevier Sciences for a "National award for innovation among the youth russian scientist".
Since 2009 (2010), the MA Timofeyev included in the "active list" - list of most cited Russian scientists, with more than 100 references to papers published in the last 7 years. List is published under the project "Expert Database" - constantly updated database of experts in natural sciences, selected on the basis of the recommendations of scientists with a high index of citations in international scientific journals.
